Description

The 2023 season of the Pacific League in Japanese baseball was a very exciting one till the very end. With my favorite team, the Softbank Hawks, the Lotte Marines and the Rakuten Eagles competing for a spot in the play-offs, I was so glad that Softbank eventually made it in. Rakuten became fourth, and missed their chance in the play-offs. Color me surprised finding a bottle of Rakuten Eagles sake while visiting the Urakasumi brewery shop.

A very light sake pouring it in my cup, the aromas of this sake as very mellow. Taking a sip, the flavors are in stark contrast of the aromas. Very well rounded, it's easy to discern that this is a very fruity sake. The flavors are not overwhelming, but also not subtle. This sake is high in umami, and the aftertaste a bit on the short side. With flavors of melon, pear and apricot, this sake has a simple yet solid flavor profile.

Even thought the Rakuten Eagles didn't make it to the play-offs, this sake is a winner in my book. Effective in what it does, and while writing this review, I just can help pouring more in my glass.
